Mark Pearman was on form for St James in their 5-4 win at Wasps II.

TABLE TENNIS: The Christmas break from scheduled action gave teams in the IBA King’s Lynn League the chance to catch up on outstanding fixtures.

In the Premier Division, a Barrett Doubles League match saw Wasps II looking for their first win of the season. They are still waiting but will not get any closer after ending up with a 5-4 loss against St James.

Owen Turner paired up with Mark Pearman and Alan Jones for two wins with each player, with Pearman and Jones also having a win for themselves.

For Wasps, Igors Scekalevs and Paul Reed had two good wins and both players had a win apiece with Terry Rudd.

Wasps remain at the bottom of the table, while St James move up to halfway.

In Division One there was a tight tussle between Spin Doctors and The Seasiders where the away team again ran out winners.

Graham Keeley and Tom Yarrow both scored a brace of wins and also took the doubles. With Mike Cooper also gaining a win, it was enough to take the match.

Peter Fysh had two good wins for Spin Doctors, with John Wiggs and Roger Chilvers also picking up a win each.

In the Pegg Scaffolding Handicap Cup, Premier Division rivals Ziggys and Avengers were in opposition.

Among some close games, Richard Mussett’s win over Chuck Hewitt was notable, enabling Avengers to push the divisional leaders all the way.

There were some good performances from the Avengers trio of Mussett, Phil Dorrington and Phil Brown, although it was not enough and the Ziggys trio of Chad Bassett, Hewitt and Martyn Allen ran out 396-361 winners.

The Seasiders also booked their place in the quarter-finals with a win against Runcton Holme B. The trio of Graham Keele y, Mike Cooper and Kerry Smith had to be at their best to see off Mike Moore, Carol Parker and David Lane 406-339. The best performance of the night came from Lane, who pulled his team back into the contest with a win over Smith.

The draw for the quarter-finals was made at the last committee meeting and resulted in: Walton Club or Hot Shots v Blades, Pegg Scaffolding v Runcton Holme, The Seasiders v West Lynn Rangers and Wasps v Ziggys.

Handicaps will be sent to secretaries over the next week.
