Mark Blowers with his 17lb 2oz mirror carp from Nar Valley Fisheries.

ANGLING: A quick day session on Nar Valley Fisheries’ Fenn Lake resulted in a hard-fighting carp for one of the members.

Mark Blowers managed to get away for a short two-hour spell on the bank and his effort was well worth it when he landed a lovely 17lb 2oz mirror carp.

The other coarse lakes on the complex continue to produce good quality fish to the hardy anglers braving the colder weather.

Hobbs Lake Trout fishery is a 25-acre season ticket-only trout fishery, which has regularly produced hard-fighting rainbows to 7lb and good quality brown trout to 6lb.

The fishery encourages ‘catch and release’, so fish continue to grow. There are some vacancies for new members for 2019.

λ A much improved week of fishing at Blackdyke Trout Fly Fishery saw no blanks.

Fish are on the top two feet and, with the new delivery last Tuesday, they seem to be evenly distributed around the lake.

The best methods have been cats whiskers, bloodworms and snakes.

Several anglers caught decent size fish over 3lb with great comments about the condition of the fishery and the quality of the fish, which were supplied by West Acre Trout Farm.

The fishery is open every day over the holiday period, except Christmas Day.
