The Duck Inn at Stanhoe has been named as one of the country’s top 50 gastropubs.

In recognition of the accolade, Elgood’s Brewery has commissioned a special celebratory Top 50 Beer which will be available at the premises from next week.

The Duck Inn is owned by chef patron Ben Handley and his wife Sarah. 

Mr Handley said: “We are delighted to have been included in the top 50 gastropubs, this is huge news for Norfolk and another step forward for this county as one of the premier dining destinations in Britain.”

Mrs Handley added: “With so many wonderful pubs and restaurants in Norfolk and throughout the whole UK, we are honoured to have been chosen to be in the Top 50 Gastropubs, alongside some of the most famous names in the industry. 

“This is an enormous credit to our staff, customers and suppliers who give us their best every day.”

A spokesman for Elgood’s said: “This recognition is the result of six years of dedication by Ben and Sarah and their whole team to transform the Duck from a village pub into a relaxed but exceptional dining experience in the beautiful Norfolk countryside.”

The Duck Inn was a finalist in The Observer Food Awards 2019 for Best Sunday Lunch, The Good Food Guide Restaurant of the Year 2017, GQ Top 5 UK Pubs 2018 and Norfolk Food Hero 2017.

The Estrella Damm Top 50 Gastropub Awards were voted by experts including food writers, executive chefs, celebrity and hospitality industry chefs and pub guide editors. 

Duck Inn manager Sam Handley said: “To be recognised by your peers in the industry as well as many of our culinary heroes makes this award even more special.
