A 17-year-old from Wimbotsham was due yesterday to have his head shaved for charity in memory of his mum.
Fraser McManus, an A-level student at Downham Market Sixth Form, is raising money for Bowel Cancer UK in memory of his mum Petrina, who died from the disease six years ago.
He said: “I always wanted to do something for the charity, but was never quite sure what.
“Bowel Cancer UK is a terrific charity that is not only looking for a cure but is also, every day, helping sufferers and families get through such difficult times.
“Although I may only raise a drop in the ocean of the cost it will take to find a cure, I believe it is a step in the right direction and I hope my mum will be looking down with great pride.”
Fraser has raised more than £2,200 and anyone wanting to sponsor him can go to www.justgiving.com and search for Fraser’s Head Shave. He added: “I’ve had such a positive reaction. I set my target at £200 but have raised more than £2,000.”
The teenager will also be hosting a Christmas quiz and bake sale.
Fraser’s friends are supporting his fundraising efforts by holding a bingo event at the sixth form on Thursday.
Residents from the town’s High Haven Care Home will also be attending the event to play bingo games and there will be collection buckets for extra sponsorship.
