King’s Lynn’s is sparkling for Christmas following the annual lights switch-on.
Sleeping Beauty cast members from the Corn Exchange panto were joined on the Tuesday Market Place stage last Sunday by West Norfolk Mayor Nick Daubney and Father Christmas to switch on the lights and entertain the crowds.
There was also street entertainment, festive stalls, fairground rides and a performance by local band Bear Club.
Mr Daubney said: “We all look forward to a successful and joyous lead-up to Christmas, enjoying all that our beautiful town has to offer for shopping, socialising and being entertained.”
The event also saw the launch of REVEAL, a new arts and technology project described as the “world’s first active reality and adventure story”.
Across Lynn and at various locations in West Norfolk, a story will be told using live shows, light projections and the latest augmented reality technologies.
Told in different episodes, REVEAL is the story of a young woman who arrives in Lynn and is given a quest by Margaret of Antioch.
Families can use mobile phones to discover clues to help her crack the code and save the town.
Elizabeth Nockolds, West Norfolk Council deputy leader and cabinet member, said: “It was obvious everyone was enjoying the atmosphere in the town. It was good to see so many young families cheering at the pantomime characters.
“The extra-spectacular start to the REVEAL active reality story gave the beginning of Christmas activities in the town a huge boost.”
