They’re off! The start of the u9s race at West Norfolk AC’s cross country event.

ATHLETICS: West Norfolk Athletic Club’s annual cross country at Houghton Hall was a success with more than 120 athletes competing in the picturesque surroundings, with perfect weather conditions.

It was a battle of the youngsters in the under 9s races with West Norfolk’s Oscar Best beating clubmate Rupert Askham by just two seconds.

Leah Beagles was first in a course record time of 2.51 over the 800m course, nine seconds ahead of Enza Florence Taylor.

In the u11s Tyler Pooley (Ryston) was first with clubmate Archie William Rowe second and West Norfolk’s Kia Peggs a strong third over the 1,500m course.

Mollie Harris also won her race.

It was the case of brothers in arms in the u13/15s race with Thetford ACs James Peck (u15) and sibling Ben (u13) finishing side by side, both smashing the course records at the 3km distance.

Holly Lawrence used her track speed to take an u13s win, ahead of Ryston’s Evie Goldring.

Alice Wallace was second in the u15 girls race.

Cameron Ross completed his first cross country event and was third.

Bure Valley Harriers were the most successful of the visiting clubs with wins in the u17, u20 and both senior men’s and senior women’s races, as well as the overall club award.

In the veterans’ race, Nic Bensley of Ryston Runners was back to his best, taking the win.

He was one of nine club members in action and, as well as first veteran, he was also third overall.
