RUGBY: West Ladies remain at the top of the NC East 1 league table after a 66-31 win in another physical game against a depleted Lakenham Hewett side, with numbers dropping to an agreed 13 a-side game.

Captain, Sarah Hodgson, and vice-captain, Amber Wadlow, led by example throughout. Rosie Lingham was a formidable force in the forwards, breaking through Lakenham’s line time and time again. Lucy Shaw’s diligence was rewarded when she made a magnificent run from deep inside West’s half to score.

Half-time came with West determined to increase their lead.

Hodgson’s second half somersault try encompassed the team’s buoyant spirits as the scoreboard continued to reflect the team’s work on the pitch.

With the ball reaching the backs through the sure hands of Kathryn Sharp, West’s speed was displayed and executed with precision putting further points on the board.

Terri Sharp made a spectacular try saving tackle, catching up to a breaking Lakenham player and giving time for the defence to realign.

Lyndsey Williams returned to the squad for the first time since the birth of her son and Natalie Carlton made an impressive impact on her debut.

West racked up 10 tries and eight conversions by the consistent boots of Zoe Sharp and Tiff Turner. Back of the match was Amber Wadlow and forward of the match was Rosie Lingham.

West’s next match is on Sunday away at Southwold. Training is on Wednesday nights from 6pm for girls from Year 7 and from 7pm for the ladies at the club on Gatehouse Lane, North Wootton.
