HOCKEY: Dreams have come true for two young Pelicans players.
Goalkeepers Lucy Sagrott, 13, and Mollie Gromett, 15, met England, Great Britain and Olympic gold medal winner Maddie Hinch at a coaching camp.
The world’s best goalkeeper in 2016 and 2017 organised a series of goalkeeping-specific camps around the country and the Pelicans pair attended one in Hertfordshire.
Hinch led a team of 16 top-quality coaches to pass on their skills and experience over the course of eight different sessions.
Hinch also joined other top-level goalkeepers in a masterclass session, coached by one of the world’s best goalkeeping coaches John Hurst (the GB coach when they won gold at Rio and bronze in London).
To see at such close quarters how good Hinch was with her speed and agility, was awe inspiring for the youngsters.
Sagrott started at Pelicans aged seven and has played for the club’s u10, u12 and development. She was ever present last season with the u14s as they won the England Hockey East Tier Two Championship and moved up into the Ladies third team.
Sagrott is also is a member of the Norfolk Academy u14s squad.
Gromett only joined Pelicans at the start of last season but her progress has been excellent, helping the Ladies second team to win promotion.
