Stock car and banger racing round-up
MOTOR SPORT: Heacham’s Willie Skoyles was back in the winner’s circle at King’s Lynn on Saturday with a fine performance in the 2L Stock Cars.
As we get closer to the World Final, the raw grit and determination that Skoyles is displaying around Lynn is clear to see and is seeing his odds tumble for the World Final, which takes place at the Adrian Flux Arena in August.
Skoyles’ heat victory was backed up by a fine fifth place in the meeting final.
The 2L stock cars began with the annual charity ladies race, which was raising money for FORDS, a charity that helps injured drivers.
Among the drivers in the race was Skoyles’ other half Kirstie, who was racing a saloon for the first time.
She was the top fundraiser for the charity and then had a, eventful race, which included a big crash but, unfazed by that, she backed off and kept going and put on a great on track display en route to a fantastic ninth-place finish.
As expected, the Predators got involved heavily in the entertaining side of the 1500cc Banger East Anglian Team Championship. A hard-hitting display by Kieran and Brad Bowman, as well as Robert Betts, saw the team win the entertainer league.
Downham Market’s Shaun Clarke was part of eventual overall winners Team Mates and was an integral part of the team with a hard hitting display in the first heat. He was unlucky not to pick up an entertainer award and then put in some great drives.
There were great performances from members of the STB Team with Lynn’s Tim Rees picking up an entertainer award for his performance in the first heat. The team came fourth in the entertainer league standings.
Jake Burgess was in action in the 1300 stock cars and enjoyed a fantastic race in the whites and yellows race, where he used the bumper liberally en route to a fourth-place finish.
Stock car and banger racing returns to Lynn on Saturday, June 30 with the Unlimited Banger War of the Worlds.
The 2L stock cars will also be in action with the Reliant Robins completing things.
