West Norfolk Ladies celebrate their tournament victory in unusual style, showing their solid foundations!

RUGBY UNION: West Norfolk Ladies ended a momentous year on a high with an emphatic win at the third year of hosting a ladies 10s tournament.

West won every game in the competition at Gatehouse Lane in North Wootton, playing with good spirits and determination to retain their title.

West beat Medway, High Wycombe, Sleaford and Amber Valley to set up a highly anticipated match against Royston to decide a possible three-way tie.

The two clubs have supported each other since they started to play ladies’ rugby at the same time and there was no better way to end the season than to play the team who also opened West’s season.

West started their season in the new surrounds of the Women’s National Championship Midlands Two League and ended it by gaining promotion just five points behind champions Peterborough.

Captain Sarah Hodge was named as the coaches’ player of the year with Mary Hegarty being awarded the players’ player of the year trophy.

Away from the team, former player Georgie Lingham took to the field for Saracens’ first and second teams, ending her season as coaches’ player of the year, as well as helping their Eastern Counties side reach the final of the Gill Burns Women’s County Competition.

West Girls continued to flourish and develop, finishing their season with a highly competitive sevens tournament on the second day of the 10s tournament.
