GOLF: New captains were welcome at Heacham Manor Golf Club, with King’s Lynn Samaritans earning the benefit.

Forty-four golfers competed in an enjoyable social day. The main event format was combined team event with the best three scores out of four on each hole counting.

An individual stableford competition was also held.

Eleven teams competed, with men’s captain Nick Searle, ladies captain Sophie De Winton, seniors’ captain Paul Sykes and junior captain Chloe Tarbard off first with solid drives in front of the spectating members.

The eventual winning team contained last year’s captain Simon King, Searles director Paul Searle, member John Shackloth and senior Dennis Snell. They scored 118 points three ahead of runners-up Giles Debenham, Christine Hughes, Graham Dark and Ben King.

The individual tournament was won by Jon Gibson with 44 stableford points.

Robert Dicks took the runners-up place on 39 with the ladies captain taking victory in the women’s event with 42, beating the junior captain Chloe Tarbard into second place on 32.

A raffle helped raise nearly £725 and a charity auction, with items including golf at Thetford, Royal Norwich, Sheringham and Hunstanton Golf Clubs, helped raise a further £560.

The Samaritans Charity was the beneficiary, reaping a total donation of £1,285.
