RUGBY UNION: West Norfolk took the chance to blood several of their young colts players in their final London League match of the season.
The visitors fell to a 41-12 defeat at but Paul Bridges was delighted with his team’s progress over his two years as captain and said: “We knew it would be tough with a number of changes and Thetford riding high in the league. However, it was great for the club to see the colts making their first team debuts.” Bridges, who has stepped down as captain added: “I am proud of what the lads have achieved after a two-year transition of the senior section. We lost numerous players at the start of last season but have recruited heavily and now built some continuity.
“I look forward to playing next year with a little less responsibility!”
The game started at a fast pace with both sides looking to move the ball through their hands and open gaps in defences.
Thetford were the first to capitalise and led 12-5 at half-time, with Jack Wicks getting West’s points.
Thetford scored three tries in the first 15 minutes of the second half and took advantage of the visitors losing Luke Covell and Edney Costa to knocks to increase their score.
Bridges powered his way through three tackles to finish his captaincy with a memorable try. Ollie Denton added the extras before Thetford completed the scoring.
Adam Fox will be captain next season and team manager Nigel Richardson said: “Paul can hold his head high, leaving the club moving in the right direction with some exciting colts coming through.”
