Staff at Terrington St Clement Co-operative store made a marathon effort to raise funds for Dementia UK.

Store manager Pauline Drewery is set to run the London Marathon in April and set up a treadmill challenge at the store to help her chosen cause.

Her colleagues took turns to run on the treadmill in the shop on Saturday, encouraging customers to donate.

Mrs Drewery, who has run the marathon four times, said: “This year I decided to raise money for Dementia UK as it is the Co-op’s chosen charity. I think everyone knows somebody who has been affected by dementia and my grandad had dementia.”

A tombola also held at the store raised £268 and Mrs Drewery said, while a total hasn’t been counted yet, she thinks at least £200 was donated during the treadmill challenge.

Ahead of the marathon she added: “The atmosphere is brilliant and the cheers you get from the crowd are great.”
