Proposed designs for the new school to serve North Lynn and Gaywood, on display in November.

Plans to build a new £10m school in King’s Lynn moved a step closer this week when the formal planning application was officially submitted.

The proposals by Norfolk County Council could see St Edmund’s Academy Primary School move to the new Lovell housing development on the Lynnsport site, behind Columbia Way and Greenpark Avenue.

If successful, the planned  development will offer 420 primary school spaces, 105 more than presently available, plus additional room for a nursery catering for 56 pre-school children.

The plans also include sports pitches, hard and soft play areas and a car park.

The new school would also make it easier and safer for pupils to get to school.

If approved, work to construct the new school could start in the summer and be finished by September next year.

The existing school, in Kilhams Way, would be refurbished in a separate project and offer places for children with additional needs.
