North West Norfolk MP Sir Henry Bellingham is calling for meetings to discuss a recovery plan for the QEH.

North West Norfolk MP Sir Henry Bellingham has written to the Shipping Minister following the death of an Albanian crewman at King’s Lynn’s Alexandra Dock last month.

Alfred Ismaili died on February 1 after an accident on board the Liberian-registered SNM Explorer cargo ship.

His family are still waiting for the body to be released as enquiries are still ongoing with the police, marine accident investigators and Norfolk coroner.

Sir Henry has written to the minister in the hope of establishing who owns the vessel.

“Although Liberian registered, the vessel appears to have Greek owners who have chartered it out to a cargo shipping company. We need this information very badly in order to find out if there was the relevant insurance covering such accidents,” he said.

Sir Henry added his heartfelt sympathy went to Mr Ismaili’s family and he also praised staff at Associated British Ports for their ‘quick and courageous’ actions.

“I have the utmost respect for their attempted rescue effort,” he said.
