Several roads in King’s Lynn town centre are to be closed throughout this month and into March.

Journeys and parking will be affected while Norfolk County Council carries out a number of projects between Monday, February 12 and Tuesday, March 6.

The work will also see King Street closed while the Mart is in town on the Tuesday Market Place, adding to the usual disruption.

Other areas affected will be Queen Street, Millfleet, St James Street, Tower Place and Stonegate Street.

Work begins in King Street on Monday, February 12 and the road will be closed until Thursday that week for excavation work.

It will re-open for the weekend, but will close again on Monday, February 19 for three days for resurfacing work and could also close on Thursday, February 22, the county council has warned.

The Mart is due to arrive in Lynn on Sunday, February 11 ready for the traditional Valentine’s day opening. The road around the Tuesday Market Place is to remain open.

Common Staithe Quay car park, which is behind the Corn Exchange, and the Tuesday Market Place car park will be closed during the fair.

The Mart is due to shut at 8pm on Saturday, February 24, with the car parks set to re-open the next day at 3pm.

Queen Street is scheduled to close for one day on Sunday, February 18 for resurfacing work and possibly again on Thursday, February 22.

Meanwhile, resurfacing and carriageway lining will close St James Street on February 22, February 26 and February 28.

Work to level the footway in Tower Place on Friday, February 16 and Monday, February 19 will see a lane closed to traffic.

Tower Place will also be closed on Friday, February 23 and Tuesday, February 27. There will be further potential disruption during carriageway relining work in Tower Place on Wednesday, February 28.

The one-way order will be temporarily revoked at the west end of St James Street while work takes place there and in Tower Place to help maintain access to businesses and homes.

Traffic heading in and out of Lynn via Millfleet will be impacted at the end of the month and into March.

Stonegate Street and Millfleet eastbound, leaving the town, will have a lane closed on Wednesday, February 28 and also Friday, March 5 and Tuesday, March 6.

In the opposite direction, a lane will be closed on Thursday March 1, Friday March 2, Monday March 5 and Tuesday March 6.

Millfleet will be closed at the junction with London Road, near Lynn Library, on Sunday, February 25.

Extra closures have also been added to the schedule.

On March 2 Stonegate roundabout is to close for one day. There will also be a lane closure on March 6 at the roundabout.

All the project work is expected to be completed by March 6.

A county council spokesman said: “The proposed traffic management is  required to conduct the works in a safe and efficient manner while reducing the impact on the networks as much as possible.

“Access will be maintained for residents with off-street parking from one direction during the works.”

The works timetable could change depending on the weather.
