Flood alerts have been issued in West Norfolk and floodgates are due to close today, February 1.

The Met Office is warning people to be prepared.

Locations most at risk are King’s Lynn, West Lynn, Clenchwarton, Terrington St Clement, Walpole Cross Keys, Tilney All Saints, Hunstanton, Heacham and Snettisham.

The Environment Agency expects high tides between 4.45pm and 8.45pm today.

Strong winds are also likely and there could be large waves with sea spray at the seafront.

The Met Office said: “We are expecting large waves and overtopping of the sea defences.”

The Environment Agency is due to close floodgates later and has asked owners of vehicles parked near the gates to move them immediately.

People are advised to stay away from risk areas and take care in coastal areas.
