Christmas arrived in Downham Market with the town’s annual lights switch-on and Santa fun run.

Runners dressed as Father Christmas completed a fun run around the town in aid of East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) on Sunday.

EACH provides care and support for children with life-threatening conditions in Norfolk and across the region, delivering more than half its service in the community at family homes and hospitals.

Downham Mayor Frank Daymond said: “It was a great day enjoyed by all, with face painting, stalls and funfair rides in the town square and market place car park.”

More than 1,000 people turned out to see the lights switch-on performed by Downham Town Council’s three Halloween competition winners, Daisy Harrod and twins Tiago and Thomas Louth, supported by the town Mayor and characters Poppy and Branch from the Trolls movie.

Entertainment was provided by the Rock Choir, Hillcrest School choir, Nelson Academy choir and singer Sarah Rayner.

Downham Market Town Council community development officer Martin Hayes said: “It was an extremely successful day.”
