ATHLETICS: Youngsters from West Norfolk AC and Ryston Runners enjoyed a busy day at the final round of the Norfolk Sportshall League in Norwich.

For West Norfolk, the u11 boys team of Alfie Bone, William Broad, George Davies, Sam Nash, Thomas O’Neill, and Charlie Tunmore, were third on the day to secure overall third.

It was a great day for Nash with second place in the standing long jump and vertical jump and third place in the two lap. There were also second places for Tunmore in the speed bounce and broad in the chest push.

A depleted u11 girls team saw Sophie Garrett battle well after a fall into the boards to continue and complete the paarlauf relay with Ester Broad.

The u13 girls team of Annie Bastian, Martha Broad, Holly Lawrence Charlotte Moore, Lily Teasdale and Sennen Tonkin were sixth on the day and fifth overall. Lawrence was second in the speed bounce and fifth in the six-lap with Tonkin matching this in the standing long jump.

In the u15 girls, Amber Scott had a highly consistent competition, finishing third on the day for the third time this season but unfortunately missed out on a medal, finishing in fourth place overall.

Other West Norfolk athletes who competed at this age group were Elizabeth Wood, 11th overall, and Ruby Schwarz, 19th.

West Norfolk dominated the u15 boys group with Alfie Williams taking the win on the day and for the season, while Joe Williams was runner-up on the day and for the season.

Ryston Runners finished their season well with the u13 boys A team coming away with third place. The team consisted of David MacQueen, Kieran Bell, Kit Howlett, Liam Clare and Ryan Wood. Howlett was second in the speedbounce and six-lap, and third in the four-lap. Clare was second in the vertical jump and MacQueen second in the triple jump. Bell had a trio of fourth places in the two-lap, six-lap and long jump, while Wood’s best was sixth in the speedbounce, as well as helping the obstacle relay team to first place. Clare and MacQueen were second in the eight-lap paarlauf and the team second in the obstacle relay, third in the 4×2.

Miles Hovell and Thomas Matthews made up the u13 boys B Team, who finished fifth overall. Matthews’ best performance came in the triple jump, ninth, with Hovell’s best 10th in the four-lap.

In the u13 girls, Lucy Oakley finished fourth in the shot and seventh in the paarlauf with Lily-May Collison. The team finished sixth in the series.

In the u11 age groups, Riley Bell was second in the two-lap and teamed up with Louie Copeland to finish fourth in the six-lap paarlauf, while Freya Knight was sixth in the two-lap hurdles and Ella Matthews 10th in the vertical jump. The boys team was seventh overall.
