RAF Marham’s IX(B) Squadron has dedicated a memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire.
The memorial was dedicated to all those who have served with the squadron since its formation on December 8, 1914 and the ceremony began with a flypast of two Tornado jet bombers from the Norfolk base.
Shaped like a pyramid, the memorial was designed by IX(B) Squadron Association honorary member John Fox and features three sections made of sandstone, green granite and brown granite.
The dedication service, held earlier this month, was led by Air Commodore Nick Hay, the Chairman of the IX(B) Squadron Association.
Following a blessing by the association’s Padre, Rev Geoffrey Firth, Group Captain Alan Ferguson, the vice president, presented the memorial to the current Commanding Officer, Wing Commander James Heeps.
Air Commodore Hay said the project had been a real team effort.
