ANGLING: Anglers from Dersingham are celebrating after making history by winning a prestigious trophy for the second time.

Dersingham Angling Club, whose home fishery is Gatton Waters, have repeated their 2015 victory in the Bait-Tech Super Cup as Midlands and National champions.

Britain’s biggest team event, the Angling Times’ Bait-Tech Super Cup was fished by more than 200 sides.

The Super Cup is open to all clubs, fishery, tackle shop and match group sides and works on a simple knockout system for local sides, culminating in big semi-finals in the North, South and Midlands before the top teams compete in a grand final.

The opening two rounds were fished during spring and early summer and, having won through those two matches, Dersingham faced a regional semi-final at Tunnel Barn Lakes, where they again finished first.

This took them through to the final at the prestigious Barston Lakes in Solihull last Sunday, where 15 sides fished for five hours.

The team of six won by seven points over their nearest rivals with special congratulations going to James Collison who had the second highest weight in the whole lake at 155lb.

Adam Playford had a section win with 54lb and good back-up scores by Martyn Allen, Matty Bunting, James Wilkinson and Danny Simper saw Dersingham reach their 31-point total for a convincing win.

In the history of the Super Cup, Dersingham are the only team to have come first twice in both the Midlands semi-final and grand final.
