GOLF: A team from Your Local Paper proved kings of the course at Luke Johnson’s annual golf day at King’s Lynn Golf Club.

The event, to support professional golfer Johnson’s career and raise money for three charities, proved popular with 20 teams in action.

The YLP team of Aaron Proctor, Gary Bush, Brad South and Matthew Bush scored 51.7 points to take the honours, ahead of Team Proctor, by almost three points.

More than £6,000 was raised at the event towards Luke’s golfing costs with donations also made to Macmillan Cancer, Cystic Fibrosis and It’s On The Ball.

The charities were nominated by Luke and the golf club’s captains.

Luke was delighted to see one of his longest-standing backers prove victorious and thanked the area’s biggest-circulating newspaper for its continued support and the help given by director Alan Taylor as compere on the day.

Alan said: “Luke has had a great year to date and we all wish Luke the very best over the coming weeks.”

Luke was overwhelmed by the support shown to him so far in his professional golfing career and said: “I have great pride in my golf day.

“It brings the local community together.

“Everyone that has been involved, from helping sign in the players to the players themselves, I can’t thank you enough for all the support you have given me.

“It’s greatly appreciated. I’m now looking forward to a positive end to a solid season.”

Mentor Jeremy Allen said: “It was an incredible day and the huge support Luke has from all his sponsors, friends and the golf club was clear to see.”

As well as the golf competition, there was also an opportunity to win prizes, including a shoot-out for the wining team with a chance of picking up £50,000.

Unfortunately no-one was successful this time so the prize rolls over for next year’s event.

The YLP raffle prize of a Fortnum and Mason Hamper was won by Richard Bly.
