ATHLETICS: West Norfolk AC’s 4x400m enjoyed an unexpected win after a determined display at St Ives in the fourth round of the Southern Athletics League.
The team of James Greenhalgh, Charlie Williams, Cameron Ross and Ben Collison battled Braintree and District AC to the line to take what they thought was second place by 0.5 seconds behind Newham and Essex Beagles.
But the race winner were disqualified, upgrading WNAC into first place.
Greenhalgh had earlier continued his good run of form by winning the 400m hurdles with another sub-60 second time.
Despite a messy 110m hurdles race, Bailey still took the win.
Katrina Wasteney had a good competitive performances in the field and Rick Bailey had another full day of competition.
Ross showed good track speed in the 100m, 200m and long jump and Nicky Neill had well-deserved third-place finishes in the 800m and 1500m.
Williams ran a competitive 400m in 55.0 and Collison ran a good 800m in 2.18.4 against the high level of competition.
West Norfolk’s 4x100m relay team claimed third place in their race.
The team head to Peterborough for the final round in August.
