RUGBY UNION: Two home players played their part in Eastern Counties Women’s 59-0 win over Lancashire at West Norfolk RUFC.
Wests Georgie Lingham scored two tries, with Mary Hegarty also featuring in the comfortable victory.
Eastern racked up nine tries in a rampant display of running rugby in the final pool game of the Gill Burns Women’s County Championship to move top of the table.
The team will have to wait until this week’s final round to see if they will make the final with Leicestershire able to overtake them if they beat Oxfordshire.
The past few weeks have been busy for West Norfolk Ladies.
They made their tournament debut in the St Neots’ 10s Tournament and started in style, seeing off Welwyn 32-0.
A 27-7 victory over Hertford and a 22-0 win against the hosts took Wests straight into the semi-finals where they held off the strong challenge of Deeping Devils to win 19-14.
Only a last-minute try as the whistle blew left them as runners-up, losing the final 22-17 to Shelford.
West Norfolk Women’s 10s Tournament and beer festival takes place at Gatehouse Lane, North Wootton from today until Sunday.
More than 200 players will be at the tournament from 10 women’s teams, offering a fantastic opportunity for spectators to sample the action and enjoy the beer festival and gin bar.
