BOWLS: A free session for potential new members proved a huge success for Wereham Village Hall’s short mat bowls group.

With near closure of the 30 year old club following the departure of several elderly members, the Wereham Village Hall charity advertised the launch night to attract
newcomers and had a heartwarming response.

New club member Phillip Pease said: “I had been interested in joining the bowls club for some time and this was a perfect opportunity.  There was a brilliant response with eight new starters, some of whom have never tried bowls. We’d like to grow our numbers by welcoming newcomers to our friendly group from Wereham and the surrounding villages. No previous experience is necessary and a warm welcome is assured.”

The group meets on Thursdays from 7pm in Wereham Village Hall. To find out more or have a chat, call Phillip on01366 501330.

  •  The Sandringham Bowls Club trio of David Lang, Bob Barrett and Duncan Webster won the Bill Green Cup Tournament by the narrowest of margins. Two blocks tied on the same number of wins and shots. It was eventually decided by the least number of shots conceded.
