A student from Gayton has organised a bake sale for a charity close to her family’s heart.

Maddie Massingham, 21, is holding the sale at Gould Barbers, at Tesco in Hardwick Road, tomorrow (Saturday) to raise money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

Miss Massingham’s 47-year-old father, Steve, a non-smoker, is undergoing treatment for lung cancer at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

She will be helped by friends and family, including younger brother Zack. “My dad is still young and fit, so it was a big shock when he was diagnosed. Gould Barbers have been really good in supporting us.”

The sale will run from 9am. There will also be a raffle with prizes donated by local firms. Miss Massingham is in the final year at Leeds University.

She has started a baking business called Fat Fairy and hopes to run the business in her spare time.
