A THORNHAM pub is celebrating after being awarded three silver stars from the AA.

The Chequers Inn was also awarded a rosette for its restaurant.

Owned and managed by Agellus Hotels (Norfolk) Ltd, it was completely refurbished  ten months ago.

“We’re delighted to be recognised with such a prestigious award,” said general manager Martin Edwards.

“Silver Stars have only been awarded since late 2015 and therefore places us in a very special select group of wonderful properties.

“All the credit must go to my team for their endeavour to exceed guest expectations and focus on what’s important to each visitor we welcome.”

The Chequers, a former 17th century coaching inn, now has 11 bedrooms, rustic bar, dining room and a courtyard which offers al fresco dining.

AA Silver Stars recognise hotels that offer a superior level of quality within their star rating, high standards of hospitality, service and cleanliness.

AA Inspector Steve Jones praised The Chequers team and said the service exceeded expectations, with the venue providing well-executed food and smart bedrooms.

The Chequers was previously owned by Horatio Inns, of which celebrity chef Marco Pierre White was a director.
