HARDCORE punk band Damaged were the winners of heat five of this year’s Battle of the Bands competition.

The Peterborough-based band  were loud and fast paced, according to organiser Triston Finnis, of Twisted Melon Promotions.

The heat, held at King’s Lynn venue Dr Thirsty’s, was “the heaviest heat we’re likely to witness this year”, said Triston.

The band beat off strong competition from Cryssis, who stood in at short notice after a late band withdrawal from the competition, Cambridge-based Synthetic and Lynn band Exit Through the Gift Shop.

As heat winners, the band have booked their place through to the semi-finals and stand a chance of performing at Lynn’s prestigious Festival Too in the summer and also the potential for air play on Lynn’s KL.FM radio station. Heat six will take place tomorrow, Saturday, at The Downham Market Club in Paradise Road at 8pm.

The battle will be between Alter the Sky, a five-piece female-fronted rock band from Cambridge, Powerhead, another Cambridge-based group playing heavy classic rock, Norfolk rock and blues cover band Powerhouse and Vulpes, a four-piece grunge band from Norfolk. Heat Seven will take place on Friday, March 31 at the new venue of Shuck’s restaurant, Thornham, at 7.30pm.
