ROAD safety improvements are to go ahead across West Norfolk following a vote by Norfolk County Council.

Members of the environment, development and transport committee approved £370,362 funding for 136 small projects last week.

For the sixth consecutive year,  the money has been allocated through the county council’s Parish Partnership scheme.

The funding will be matched by parish and town councils across Norfolk after they were invited to put in bids for funding schemes important to their area in June last year.

The Norfolk Safety Camera Partnership (SafeCam) has agreed to contribute £80,000 towards bids for mobile speed awareness signs which flash drivers’ speeds rather than the speed limit in 2017/18.

Funding has also been granted for trods, a simplified lower cost alternative to footways which are often constructed using recycled road surface material.

Other safety projects will see new bus shelters, crossings, signs and wig wags (20mph signs with flashing lights outside schools) installed in villages.
