LIFTED: The East Anglian Air Ambulance over Railway Road

AN 79-year-old grandmother has died following a collision with a van in King’s Lynn.

Heather Jane Lord was crossing Railway Road near the Norfolk Street junction when the crash happened at around 10.10am on Saturday.

She was airlifted to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with severe head injuries and multiple broken bones, but died on Monday evening.

Police closed the road for around four hours while the emergency services worked, causing disruption and delays around the town.

The crash involved a silver Peugeot van and officers are appealing for any crash witnesses to come forward.

Former West Norfolk Mayoress Judith Daubney, 65, was killed in a crash on the same crossing in 2010.

Mrs Daubney, of Gaywood, the widow of former borough Mayor Les Daubney, died at the scene following a collision with a dustbin lorry.

Police have not named the woman who died on Monday. An inquest into her death is expected to open shortly.

Witnesses are asked to contact PC Andy Goodway at Swaffham Roads Policing on 101.
