A MILESTONE has been reached in the £30m revamp of Hillington Square in King’s Lynn.

Freebridge Community Housing began remodelling the 1960s estate in 2013 and the project will eventually see all 320 flats upgraded inside and out.

The third phase of the project, the regeneration of Colby Court, is now complete and work is already under way on phase four, with a further 44 homes due to be finished by early next year.

Tony Hall, Freebridge chief executive, welcomed David Orr, chief executive of the National Housing Federation, in joining the celebrations last week.

Mr Orr was given a tour to see work being carried out on Hillington Square and met tenants who had moved into Colby Court.

“As an organisation we are tremendously proud of the work that we have completed at Hillington Square and the positive effect that the regeneration has had on the communities in and around the area,” Mr Hall said.

“This was a great opportunity for us to share that work with David, but also a chance to show him the plans that we continue to push forward with for the final phases of the project.”

Mr Orr added: “Regeneration is about taking places like Hillington Square, where people were thrilled to live when they were first built, and making changes so that people are thrilled to live here once again.

“Freebridge should be proud of what it’s achieved.”
