TWO West Norfolk primary schools have officially become academies.

North Wootton Academy and Upwell Academy both became part of College of West Anglia Academy Trust on Wednesday.

Formerly known as North Wootton Community School, staff and governors were told it required improvement at its last Ofsted inspection in 2015.

The school, in Priory Lane, has more than 300 pupils on its roll.

Principal Jonathan Williams said: “We are really pleased to have joined CWA Academy Trust.

“This is a very exciting time for North Wootton Academy and I am optimistic about the opportunities this partnership will bring, given the considerable success the trust has had recently with its primary academies.”

Upwell Academy, formerly Upwell Community Primary School, has more than 170 students on its roll and was graded good by Ofsted in its last inspection in 2013.

Acting principal, Haidee Norman, said: “We have the opportunity to turn our good school, under the guidance of CWA Academy Trust, into an outstanding one.

“Recent Ofsted results for other primary schools within the trust have only confirmed that our decision to join the trust was indeed the correct one for our school.”

CWA Academy Trust also supports several other primary academies including Eastgate Academy in King’s Lynn, Nelson Academy in Downham Market and Southery Academy.
