TABLE TENNIS: The top two teams in the IBA Protect King’s Lynn League went head-to-head in a thrilling encounter.

The TopSpynn team of Richard Johnson, Karl Brown and Ross Brown took the spoils 6-4, but it was the home team Ziggy’s player Gary Hewitt who was the star of the show with a fine maximum.

Even though TopSpynn won, they are still trailing by 17 points although they do have a game in hand.

St James hosted Wisbech Wizards and were also on the wrong end of a 6-4 scoreline.

Brett Heppenstall grabbed a maximum for the visitors and Alan Ashberry claimed a brace with the duo pairing up to take the doubles,

Owen Turner, 2, Alan Jones and Chris Gay scored for the home team.

Avengers entertained Pegg Scaffolding and came up against an in-form Wayne Mason,

He walked away with a maximum and led his team to a 7-3 win. Martin Skipper, 2,  and Peter Pegg were the other scorers with Keith Phillips, 2 and Jerry Irving responding. ,

Heacham A hosted Ambits but, with only two players, gave their visitors a three-game head star.

However, Leigh Macdonald scored a maximum and Mick Ruffles gained a win over Graham Rogerson to see honours even at 5-5.

Jeff Chung and Lewis Baldock both beat Ruffles in return.

Wasps took on Heacham and another 5-5 draw was the outcome,

Tomasz Simka was the only player going unbeaten for the home team with Steve Goodale and Mike Crowson also getting wins.

For Heacham, James Patterson and the ever-improving Aaron Howell both scored a brace and teamed up to take the doubles.

Division One table-toppers Wisbech Hawks took on third-placed Runcton Holme and sailed to a 7-3 win,

Graham Shepard and Graham Pack both gained full maximums and the doubles together.

For Runcton, Melvyn Jupp, Nick Osborne and Graham Warren had good wins over Nick Pack.

Only a point behind the Hawks are Wasps 2 who were helped out by Runcton Holme A as they could only field two players so conceded three games before play began.

The final score was 8-2 to Wasps. Danny Vertigan had two wins for the home team, but it was Mick Forth who was in form for the away team with a fine maximum.

Terry Rudd and David Hughes both had a win over Mik Pitt.

Fourth-placed Greenfingers took on a rejuvenated Paul’s Driving School.

Paul Barrett and Trevor Mason both gained maximums for the away team, seeing them to a 6-4 win.

Gordon Penney, Graham Keeley and Stuart Frost all had wins over Ash Starling.

The final game of the week was between Spin Doctors and Runcton Holme B, which ended all square at 5-5.

Peter MacDonagh was the star of the show, winning all three of his games for the Spin Doctors,

Roger Chilvers and Gary Wiggs both had wins over Bryan Parsons in back up.

In return, David Lane and Clive Sandle both won a brace for Runcton and paired up to take the doubles.
