West Norfolk country music stars Merv and Maria have been presented with an industry award.

The Futter family father and daughter duo, of Tilney Cum Islington, are country music performers and promoters who received an award for Services to British Country Music at the Southern Country Awards held in Camberley, Surrey.

Merv said: “It’s really lovely to be recognised for our services to country music because we just get on and do it. It was delightful to receive the award.”

Maria added: “We are delighted, proud and over the moon. We love every minute of what we do and we are delighted to have received an award for all our efforts.”

Merv began his music career more than 40 years ago in local rock band Barnaby. He was also part of a dinner dance band, but his love of country music eventually led him to starting out on his own.

He was then joined by daughter Maria around 20 years ago and they began performing together on the country music scene.

They also host and promote music weekends with country and Irish bands, both in the UK and abroad.

Merv said: “Nowadays we get as much pleasure out of organising events.”

Maria added: “At some of our events we have 350 people having a fantastic time and it’s terrific to know we have been a part of that. We genuinely love what we do.”

Next week Merv and Maria will be hosting an event in Benidorm.

They are also promoting Raymond Froggatt at Pentney Bowls Club on Sunday, May 7.

On October 1 they will be hosting and performing at Merv and Maria’s Country Spectacular at King’s Lynn Corn Exchange.
