Tribute has been paid to a long-standing Rotarian and West Norfolk businessman.

Members of The Rotary Club of King’s Lynn held a minute’s silence for retired family butcher Dennis Prior, who died on February 4.

Mr Prior, 87, of King’s Lynn was the club’s most senior member in age and joined Rotary 30 years ago.

He was an active member of the club and a proud recipient of a lifetime achievement award.

The club has met at Lynn’s Stuart House Hotel for many years and Mr Prior usually sat in the same seat – adjacent to the top table so he could hear what was being said.

A tribute was read at the club’s meeting on February 6 and members stood for a minute’s silence.

Club press officer Ron Jackson said: “Unfortunately, due to ill health and several stays in hospital, Dennis had not attended Rotary meetings for around three months.

“Over his 30 years as a Rotarian, Dennis rarely missed a meeting or a club event, he was always eager to take part and support every activity, however onerous. Dennis will be remembered for his smile, his cheery manner and his prodigious memory of all things King’s Lynn. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as a Rotarian and a friend.”
