HOCKEY: Pelicans Girls Development team faced a tough task at Norwich Dragons.
Despite the boost of wearing a new away strip sponsored by Crane Garden Buildings, a battling performance was not enough to avoid a 7-0 defeat.
The Dragons team contained a number of Junior Academy Centre county players. whereas the visitors’ ranked included two young players making their debut under extreme pressure but Annie Bastian and Daisy Waddison coped well.
Goalkeeper Lucy Sagrott made numerous saves and clearances but Pelicans can hold their heads high for a commendable display.
Norfolk Cars mini player of the match was Mia Moore.
λ Pelicans pulled off a tremendous 9-6 win at Bury St Edmunds in Midlands League Four of the England Hockey u14 Championships.
Having lost 4-2 at Cambridge, drawn 1-1 with Norwich City and beaten Norwich Dragons 8-0, Pelicans needed another big win ahead of their last home fixture against leaders Harleston on February 19, 12.30pm. Spectators are welcome.
Pelicans got off to a lightning start at Bury and were 4-0 up inside 11 minutes through Ellie Padmore 2, Izzy Pope and Poppy Beales.
Beales added two more before the break to earn a 6-1 advantage and continued her goal spree after the break with two more.
By the time Pope grabbed her second it was 9-3 but the hosts hit back with three more goals to complete the scoreline.
Players/managers’ players of the match were Pope and Beales with the coaches’ award going to Emily Pluck.
