Communities across West Norfolk are to adopt traditional red phone boxes.
The planning committee at West Norfolk Council was asked to consider BT’s proposals to remove 97 kiosks from the borough at a meeting on Monday.
Members objected to the loss of 14 payphones where communities had expressed an interest in adopting them.
Under BT’s Adopt a Kiosk scheme, parish councils can pay £1 for the boxes once phone equipment is removed.
The committee objected to the removal of a further 15 boxes where communities had objected to their removal.
It raised no objection to the complete removal of 68 kiosks where no objections had been received or the parish council in question had not responded.
