Old and discarded books were given a new lease of life during a book folding event at Downham Market library.

The popular event was fully booked with 16 people taking part, turning old library books into flowers and hedgehogs which they then decorated.

Library manager Fran Valentine said: “This was a beginners session and the results look really impressive although it’s not hard to do.

“If you can fold a paper aeroplane you can do book folding.”

At a previous Christmas-themed book folding event participants made angels and  candle holders for electric tea lights.

The next session is already fully booked but more will be added as the events are proving so popular.

Future events include An Introduction to the Writing of Poetry – a six-week course starting on January 21, costing £30.

There will also be a talk on complementary therapies as part of the In Good Company group on February 7.

For details of future events call in to the library to pick up a what’s on leaflet or go to www.facebook.com/downhammarket library.
