FOOTBALL: King’s Lynn Town face a tricky trip to National League side Gateshead in the first round of the FA Trophy after a scrappy 1-0 win over St Ives Town at The Walks on Saturday.
Gary Setchell brought back his first-team regulars following the midweek Norfolk Senior Cup fixture against Thetford.
Sam Gaughran, Danny Quigley, Lee Smith, Toby Hilliard and Lee Stevenson were all restored to the starting line-up.
Lynn started brightly and took the lead after 12 minutes,
Ryan Hawkins’ cross from the right seemed to catch visiting goalkeeper Tim Trebes out of position and he could only punch the ball out to Michael Clunan, who coolly slotted home a volley from the edge of the box.
That was one of few chances to fall to either side in a lack-lustre encounter.
Deep into the second half, St Ives had their best chance when Josh Dawkin managed to break the Linnets back line. But with a clear run on goal and only Alex Street to beat, the striker could only drag his effort across goal and wide of the target.
Lynn will travel to Tyneside on Saturday, December 10, with a prize of £5,000 awaiting the victors.
