FOOTBALL: A depleted King’s Lynn Town team booked a place in the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy thanks to a 2-1 win at Stourbridge.

The Linnets face a challenging trip to Buxton on November 12 after a battling performance saw them through in the West Midlands.

Lynn lost key players Leon Mettam and Lee Stevenson to injuries in training on Thursday but made a bright start and struck twice in the first half to book their passage.

They took the lead after 11 minutes when good pressure from Kurtis Revan drew a mistake from Leon Broadhurst and Revan slipped the ball across goal for Toby Hilliard to slot under goalkeeper Matt Gould.

Lynn doubled their lead just before the interval. Pressure from Shaun McWilliams saw the Linnets midfielder drive into the box, where he was fouled.

Michael Clunan stepped up and coolly slotted home the penalty, sending Gould the wrong way.

The home side where gifted a way back into the game in the 76th minute. Substitute Michael Duggan’s header back across goal was turned home by the unfortunate Lee Smith, who was making his return in the blue and gold after his stint of travelling.

Lynn had the chance to restore their two-goal advantage when Revan raced clear but Gould saved well at his feet.

Revan’s time on the pitch did not last much longer. After receiving a yellow card in the first half for diving, he was sent off when he picked up a second booking following a clash with Chris Lait.

Alex Street pulled off a superb save to deny Brandon Hague in the 90th minute.
