Teachers at a King’s Lynn school have a novel way of helping youngsters prepare for learning writing skills.

Around eight months ago, staff at St Edmund’s Community Foundation School at North Lynn introduced dough disco sessions.

The early years children, aged three to five, dance to music by Swedish band Abba while practising muscle-strengthening exercises with the dough. Nursery teacher Sarah Waterfield explained the exercises  helped to strengthen and develop muscles in the shoulders, arms and fingers to prepare the children for learning to write.

Miss Waterfield said the children were given their own pots of sparkle dough to take home and an explanatory leaflet for parents, who were able to join in the session.

“It was really successful,” said Miss Waterfield.
