SHORT TENNIS: Daphne Stannard and Pam Dalby have been crowned Wednesday queens.

The pair won a friendly tournament at Lynnsport Women’s Wednesday group to join in with the Olympic fever!

Twenty women took part in the competition, with partners drawn out of a hat to play doubles.

Amazingly, two sets of sisters ended up as partners – June Taylor and Jill Biggs, and Linda Watson and Sandra Collins.

The pairs were drawn into two groups and played three games each. The winners of each group met in the final with a play-off for third/fourth place seeing Julie Jones and Sandra Jones come out on top.

The final saw Stannard and Dalby beat sisters Taylor and Biggs 3-1.

Trophies were presented by Alive Leisure tennis development manager Jodie McGill.

The Women’s Wednesday activity sessions offer six weeks of a coached sport and run from 9.30-11.30am.

They include badminton, short tennis and table tennis delivered by coaches Janis Baker and John Pringle during the first hour. The second hour is an opportunity to practice or join an aerobics class.

Booking is not required and equipment is available.
