FOOTBALL: Goals at both ends of the game saw King’s Lynn Town pick up their first Southern League win of the season.
It was a perfect start for the lads in blue and gold when
they took the lead against Redditch United inside the opening two minutes.
Jacek Zielonka linked up well with Leon Mettam and he released Toby Hilliard. His drive into the box saw his shot well blocked by Bradley Catlow. Lee Stevenson scuffed the rebound into the ground but recent signing Shaun McWilliams was on hand to nod the ball home from inside the six-yard box.
Lynn suffered injury misery when front man Hilliard went off and the second half had barely begun when Gary Setchell’s threadbare squad suffered another blow with the loss of central defender Sam Gaughran with a hamstring injury.
Lynn missed some good chances with Zielonka twice denied by Catlow and Mettam heading over.
The Lynn defensive line got deeper and deeper and soaked up constant pressure but were breached after 78 minutes when a delightful flick from substitute Darren Byfield released Danico Johnson and he rounded Alex Street to slot home the equaliser.
Lynn had the reliable Street to thank after 84 minutes with a full-stretch fingertip save from Johnson to keep the scores level.
Minutes later Matty Castellan had a shot tipped over by the impressive Catlow that resulted in a corner.
The kick was taken short by Mettam and the ball played into the box by Stevenson for Dan Quigley to beat Catlow to the cross and send the ball looping up kindly for Castellan to head in the winner.
