Work is progressing on a new £4.4m Travelodge on the edge of King’s Lynn.

The 68-bedroom hotel is being built next to the Gate House pub in Hardwick Road, off Nar Ouse Way.

Plans for the development, which include a car park with 61 spaces, were first submitted to West Norfolk Council five years ago, but the hotel failed to materialise.

Building work began at the site, a former lorry park, earlier this year and the finished hotel  is to be brick with timber cladding.

The hotel backs on to Horseley Fields and will be accessed via Nar Ouse Way, sharing the existing turning for the pub.

Around 15 jobs have been created by the development and the company has said it hopes to open for business this year.

This week the applicant, Equity Estates, applied to the borough council for advertising planning consent for signs at the site, including a free-standing illuminated sign.
