A West Norfolk trombonist will be taking part in this year’s famous Last Night of the Proms concert next month.

Ben Holford, 17, will be a member of the Youth Ensemble which is due to perform in the world-famous event on Sepetmber 10.

The Springwood pupil attends the Royal College of Music each Saturday and will be studying at a conservatoire when he leaves school next year.

He is a grade eight (highest) trombone player and is a member of the King’s Lynn Town Band as well as his school’s swing band and  concert band.

His mum Joanne said Ben started playing at the age of nine during a taster day at school.

He continued with the trombone and also achieved grade eight with distinction on the tuba as well as playing the keyboards.

“He also plays the organ at St Nicholas Chapel whenever he can,” said Mrs Holford.

Ben also took part in his third performance with Springwood at the Sandringham Flower Show last week.

His younger brother Alex, 9, is learning the piano and his dad Gavin plays the drums.
