An Ashwicken couple has presented £1,000 to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to thank staff for their excellent care.

Janet and John Newman wanted to give something back to the King Lynn hospital’s Macmillan Centre, so donated the money to the Cancer Treatment and Care Fund.

Mrs Newman was diagnosed with Lymphoma in October last year and was treated at the centre and at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, in Cambridge.

The couple’s friends in the Manor of Stockwell Masonic Lodge 4746 in London donated £500 from their charity fund and a further £500 was added by Mr Newman, a retired police officer.

Mrs Newman, who finished treatment in June, said: “I wanted to do something to thank the staff as they have always been so thoughtful, kind and supportive.

“I felt so comfortable here and everyone was so friendly.”

Mr Newman also thanked members of the Lenne Lodge 4251 in King’s Lynn for their help and support during a difficult time.

He added: “What impressed me is that everyone here is always smiling.”

The couple handed the two cheques to charge nurse Jayne Miller and fundraising executive Laurence Morlaàs.
