Around 15 sacks of rubbish were collected in just a few hours during a litter pick organised by Tesco in King’s Lynn.

A group of ten staff from the Hardwick Road store braved the wet weather to take part in the event on Monday, joined by a five-strong team from West Norfolk Council.

The litter pickers were out for three hours, starting at the store and heading over the iron bridge on the Hardwick Industrial Estate, along the cycle path to Strikes in Gaywood.

Tesco community champion Laura Gathercole said staff were surprised by the amount of discarded rubbish they found, particularly energy drinks cans.

Miss Gathercole said the team collected a sack of rubbish each during the litter pick, which is the first of four being organised by the store this year.

Staff are currently working on designs for a new sensory garden at the town’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The existing garden, between Shouldham Ward and the new breast unit, is bare and Miss Gathercole said they hoped to give patients something more to look at.

“We don’t want people to feel they are in hospital,” she added.
