The youngest age group enjoyed a coaching session at Great Massingham’s Great British Tennis Weekend.

TENNIS: Great Massingham Tennis Club hosted its third Great British Tennis Weekend with an open day on Saturday and a mixed doubles tournament on Sunday.

As part of a nationwide event organised by the Lawn Tennis Association, it gave everyone, young or old, rookie or experienced player, the chance to play tennis for free.

More than 50 children took part in the morning’s coaching sessions and in the afternoon there was a taster session for cardio tennis session to funky music, which proved popular, followed by a lesson in trick shots, including the Roger Federer style ‘hotdog’.

Throughout the day there was the opportunity for players to test their speed of serve and use a ball machine, play mini-tennis and enjoy a real hotdog from the barbecue, plus plenty of delicious cakes – a combination of the Great British Bake Off and the Great British Tennis Weekend!

On Sunday, 26 keen tennis players from the Great Massingham club competed in a mixed doubles tournament and the final was played in the sunshine after a picnic lunch with strawberries and cream.
