Oliver Clarke celebrates his success at Buckmore Park in Kent.

West Norfolk go kart racer Oliver Clarke is celebrating an amazing start to his season.

The 13-year-old Downham Market racer, who has graduated from Honda Cadets after becoming British Champion last year, was a fairly late entry to the Formula Kart Stars series after being given a place with Fortec Motorsport team just two days before the event opened.

In the first round at Buckmore Park in Kent, Clarke took pole in qualifying before going on to win all three heats.

He won heat one by 12 seconds, heat two by 2.3 seconds and in heat three held the others back by just over a second.

Starting the final in pole position, Clarke lost the lead at the start of the 20-minute final but, once he got it back he never looked back and went on to win again to make it four wins out of four on his debut.

Clarke said: “I was delighted to get the place on the Fortec Kart team and the result is just the icing on the cake. I am looking forward to the next round in Wales at the end of the month.”
