A combination of over confidence and missing regulars saw West Norfolk’s Norfolk Cup ambitions undone as they exited at Thetford in the semi-final.

The hosts were 41-22 victors, leaving just a London North East Three trip to Southwold to complete West’s season.

West began well enough in wet but firm conditions, with Yousef Edris bursting over for an early try.

All looked to be going to plan when Paul Denton crashed through but it only served to wake up the Breckland side and three tries inside 10 minutes put them ahead.

West fought back with a try from winger Jake Richardson to close the gap to 19-15 at the break.

A yellow card for Richardson frustrated West further, as three more tries were conceded, including a gifted interception to give Thetford a healthy
41-15 lead.

West regrouped in the final quarter and some fast phases of attacking play from Freddie Playford and Sam Greenwood put the visitors on the front foot with Sean Brundle touching down. Joe Butt added the conversion to finish the match.

Sam Greenwood was the Adrian Flux man of the match award winner.
